The Idea

Our journey started like many other businesses, over a heated argument.  On one side of the ring, a man and his collection of sauces, on the other, a wife fed up with no fridge space and a mountain of half-used out-of-date sauce bottles. 

 

At that moment, we realised so many of the sauces were simply flavoured mayonnaise… Garlic, Siracha, Peri-peri, Truffle etc.  

 

Why keep so many bottles in the fridge, why not use plain mayo as the base and add your flavours when needed?

Enter Pimp Your Mayo, a fine seasoning blend that blends with Mayonnaise, keeps for 12+ months in your cupboard and can be added to your preferred ratio. Think Goldilocks and the Three Bears, not too hot not too mild…

We got Two stars! We had independently verified we had an “Outstanding” product. We should probably launch it…

 

At this point, we finalised our recipes and created our packaging for the remaining 3 products that were currently naked. We launched a website and thought we were going to be millionaires… it turns out not many people search “Pimp Your Mayo” in Google, save my mum and a few friends.

 

So we signed up for our first event, the Broadway Food Festival, we sold out just before the sun came down! With this revelation, we frantically booked up our weekends attending various food events and Christmas markets as possible.

Our Ethos

We want to ensure we get maximum flavour in each jar, so we take the long route round, sourcing ingredients fresh before drying them at our HQ for each batch. The smell of fresh yellow Habaneros drying is truly intoxicating!

 

Our search for high-quality ingredients has had us hunting for Truffles across Europe and into the forests of France for our Porcini mushrooms. 

 

Spices start to lose their flavour and intensity after 12 months, how long have some of your spices been sat in your cupboard for?  We individually toast and grind our spices for each batch to ensure they are fresh for your tastebuds.

The Beginnings

In 2021 we started testing blends, armed with a small coffee bean grinder and making a considerable mess of our kitchen. Tiny sachets of blends labelled A/B/C were distributed to family and friends in a quest to find the best.

 

Fast forward to 2022 and we thought we’d try our luck and sign up for the Great Taste Food Awards. The entries are open for a short window in January, with results not announced until August. We signed up our Chipotle & Lime, quickly mocked up our first packaging and sent it off in the post, before returning to our office jobs and waiting.

 

In the summer an opportunity arose to open a pop-up kitchen with a friend, “Posh & Pecks” rolled into town with tasty chicken burgers and an opportunity to gather more feedback on our test flavours. Black Truffle and Porcini on a chicken burger with plenty of parmesan became a menu hit and cemented itself as one we should launch.

 

At this point, we’d not sold a single jar, we only had test packaging for 1 flavour and we still weren’t sure if it was just our friends being supportive.

 

Then we got the Great Taste results…
